adding products in woocommerce
in this training video i am going to show you how to add your first product to woocommerce. go ahead and click on products. at the top of the page click add new. and before we start adding in these product details, we'll go ahead and talk about the areas we are going to edit in this tutorial. we are going to give a product it's product name, we are going to put in the product description in the wysiwyg area. we are going to create a new category, and we are going to add a product image via the featured image functionality. at the bottom of the page, we are going to put in a short product description, as well as edit the general settings, inventory and the shipping settings under product data. i already have some notes that i put together here for my product which is a t-shirt. i'm going to give my product a title, then i'll add the short description, as well as the full description. i'm going to need to create my product category now. i have a t-shirt, so that is the category that i'm going to choose. click on "add new category". let's upload the new image for the product. i've selected the picture i'm going to use and i'm going to set it as featured image. i'll make sure the text looks right and get rid of some of the break tags that came from the text editor. there we go, that looks much better. under the general options, if you organize your products by sku number, also known as the stock keeping unit, you can put that number here and set your price. the regular price for my t-shirt is 29.99 and my sales price is 22.99. if you want to manage your stock's inventory, you can click the checkbox and put in how much product you have on hand. for example i'll put that i have 25 and under stock status you can select from "in-stock" or "out-of stock". under "allow back-orders", you can select from the following: do not allow, allow but notify customer or allow. i'm actually not going to allow back orders, because it makes things that much easier. the last option is whether you want to sell this individually, meaning if you select this checkbox then customers will only be able to buy one of these products per order. i'm going to leave that unselected so that people can order more than one of my t-shirts. now under shipping, this is where you would put in the shipping weight. you can put in the dimensions and select the shipping class. we are going to go into more details about the shipping options in a later video. the final thing to discuss, is that in the product data area, you'll see a drop-down for the product type. you can choose from: simple product, grouped product, external affiliate product or variable product. i'm only selling a t-shirt, so i'm going to select the "simple product". that's about it, go ahead and click publish. now we''ll go into the front-end of the site, and see what this looks like in the shopping cart page. now you can see that my new product is available for people to purchase. if you click on the title it will take you to the product page. here is the short description, and below there are two tabs: description and reviews. so that's that general overview of how to add your first product in woocommerce. remember if you have questions please make sure to post your feedback in the comments area for this video. thank you for watching and stay tuned for more woocommerce training videos.
